Scott Hawthorne and his group did the turn around with us and had equal success boating a 30 pound yellowfin and a gaffer Mahi before dark. The night chunk was uneventfull with only a large blueshark until daybreak when we went 3 for 4 on large 60lb longfin and then went up on the troll and boated another 2 out of 5 longfin and 2 more nice Mahi. It looks like things are improving and with the squid boats and a little bit of a temperature break hanging around we should finally see some decent fishing in October.

Gary Hoskins and his crew joined us for our first canyon trip in over a week. We ended up being the only charter boat in the hudson Sunday night and we were anxious to see what the weather brought in. We started off trolling for about 2 hours before dark and boated several nice gaffer Mahi and 2 50-60 pound Longfin. After dark we had another Longfin more mahi and went 3 for 4 on 60 pound swords. A definite improvement over the past months fishing.

Looks like the weather is going to wipe out about 6 trips for us this week and the beggining of next with this persistant North East flow. After the dust settles we hope to see an improvement in the canyon fishing for the end of September and October.

Dan Kratz and his group from seven son environmental joined us for there annual canyon trip. We hit the Bluefin grounds once again on the way out and went 4 for 5 pretty quick before we decided to continue on to the canyon. We found some good water and set up for the night and the full moon current was ripping, from 1am -3:30 am the current subsided and the crew went 1for 2 on yellowfin and missed 3 swords. It was one of those if it could go wrong it did nights, the full moon must make fish crazy too.

Fred Wilson and his crew joined for for our third turnaround of the weekend and again boated there 2 bluefin, Only this time they decided to overnite at the bluefin grounds. We ended up with 12 fish on altogether and believe it or not most of the bites were at night fore us. hopefully after the full moon the canyon will pop, until then I am glad we have these Bluefins.

Peter Kroeg and his gang joined us for a turnaround, again we stopped for the bluefin bite and it was instant going 5 for 6 in the forst hour and a half and fighting one of them for over 40 minutes. We boated our 2 but unfortunatly lost the big one. Again we continued on to the canyon and boated 1 small yellowfin and a sword with about a half dozen other bites throughout the night. It was an improvement but not much.

Scott Peggs from Ferguson and his group joined us for our first canyon trip in a couple weeks, It was long awaited. We stopped on the way out and went 5 for 9 on bluefins from 40lbs to a nice 62" inch plus fish, boating our 2 fish we continued on to the canyon. We found some nice water between the hudson and toms and had a small sword almost instantly after setting up. Unfortunatly that was it for the night. Everything was right, bait , nice water, but no fish. I will post a pic of the bluefin shortly.

Joe Fritzen joined me on the Benchmark 2 on monday for his last shot at the Fluke this season. We had high hopes but it was a little rougher than expected early on and the fish werent biting as they were the 2 previous days before. We ended up releasing a handfull of shorts and called it a day. Well get em next year, until then its PB&J sandwiches instead of Flounder sandwiches.

John Ness took his coworkers and Family out for a day of inshore Tuna fishing on the Benchmark and this time we had some action about mid morning. After 2 passes we boated a 36" bluefin which was released and a 38" bluefin for the table. We also had a couple small Mahi throughout the day and another false albacore. Fall is coming the albacore seem to be making an appearance which means chunking for inshore bluefin should be getting good.

Rick Reis and his crew joined us for a little inshore action to start off the holiday weekend. the bluefishing was a good solid bight and after they kept what they needed we switched over to Fluke which didnt really produce except for 1 keeper and a handfull of throwbacks.

Tom Kane, Art Tildesley and there 2 sons joined us for an inshore tuna trip aboard the Benchmark. After several hours of trolling and a couple dolphin and a false Albacore Tuna we spotted a barrell floating and boated 15 Mahi and some nice triggers to save the day.

Jerry petruzelli and his family joined us for a half day of fluking and although they called for 5-10 knots it was quite a bit more. Everyone opted for the river which had been producing good catches of keeper Fluke but the outgoing tide was unfavorable and only produced a handfull of shorts to 17 inches.

Scott Rappoport and his family joined aboard the Benchmark for some Fluke and Seabass action. We ended up with 3 keeper Fluke and a good pile of keeper seabass.

We couldnt wait anymore and decided to take advantage of the nice weather and headed for the canyon on wednesday with Myself, super mates John, wayne and Matt and Phil and Mike LaRussa. The weather was great and we even put 2 nice dolphin to 30lbs in the boat, kept 1 out of 4 yellowfin, a small sword, released a hammerhead and a blueshark and boated about 20 nice tilefish. Over all a very enjoyable trip and we are looking forward to our overnighter this weekend.
